Director of Skating

Objective/Purpose:

Reporting directly to the Skate Saskatoon Board of Directors, the Director of Skating is responsible for overseeing skating programs in alignment with Skate Saskatoon’s strategic plan. A primary focus is the development of a more complete competitive program and providing leadership for club growth and skater development.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Further develop a high-level training environment using current best practices for training figure skaters of all ages who have competitive or recreational goals
  • Help re-establish Skate Saskatoon as a club regularly producing nationally and internationally recognized competitive athletes
  • Club coach for group instructed programming (optional)
  • Freelance coach for private or semi-private lessons

Qualifications:

  • Coaching Certification
    • NCCP Provincial Certified or higher with a plan to complete National Coach certification
  • Experience
    • 6+ years coaching or a combination of coaching/national level competitor
  • Other
    • Criminal Records Check, with Vulnerable Sector
    • First Aid Certificate
    • Making Ethical Decisions
    • Good standing with Skate Canada
    • Legally able to work in Canada on an unrestricted basis
    • Strong communication skills

Working Environment and Benefits:

  • Dedicated figure skating facility, with typically 700+ skaters, year-round ice, and oversight to set the ice schedule
  • Sand based ice surface, no hockey boards, dedicated lockers rooms, coaches’ room, 2 offices, 187-person capacity hall (can be used for training purposes), modern music system, off ice jump harness
  • Travel within and outside Saskatchewan is required for attending competitions and seminars
  • Salary commensurate with experience and coaching level

  • Potential for a diminishing salary bonus during first 3 years while a private freelance coaching business is built in Saskatoon as well as negotiable relocation allowance

  • Leadership/Vision – demonstrated focus and commitment to helping others
  • Relationship Building – experience working as part of and/or managing a collaborative coaching environment
  • Personal Effectiveness – demonstrated self-awareness, accountability, and personal capacity
  • Technical Expertise – in program components and optimizing competition performance as well as current technical aspects and training demands required to be a high-performance skater. Experience coaching athletes to perform at a high level (triple jumps and level 4 spins)
